Growing up on the beaches of the Gold Coast, Travis has spent a lot of time around the water Surfing, Diving and Fishing. After 6 years in the Army as an Engineer, Travis went into mining as a Shotfirer and managed to get the odd dive in here and there before venturing overseas with his girlfriend Cassie.

Whilst overseas Travis and Cassie completed their Divemaster Course and Spearfished for 8 months all through Central America from Mexico to Costa Rica. “It was an amazing experience travelling and spearfishing every day for 8 months straight.” Travis said. “You can really learn a lot from all the different cultures when you travel. In some places the fish were so flighty you really had to learn how to hunt each species or you would go home empty handed. It makes you a better diver that’s for sure.” After getting back from overseas Travis went back to Mining and and dived almost everyday on his breaks.

Eight months later Travis realised that Mining wasn’t his calling and decided to go into partnerships with his uncle Stephen Brooks, creating Great Barrier Reef Bluewater Charters. “I did my research and realised there was a market for us so I spoke to my uncle and he was all for it. I guess putting people onto good fish and seeing the smiles on their faces is just as rewarding as doing it myself”
